CROW:dance/puppetry/poetry spectacular with music by Leafcutter John Opens next week

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 | Crow, Live Shows

CROW opens in one week!

It’s been well over a year since I started work on the music for CROW, and soon it will be ready. I have made over an hour of new music for the show and been totally inspired by Director Mervyn Millar, the cast, and all the other creatives on the project.

I can guarantee you will never have seen a Theatre / Dance / Poetry / Music thing like this before.

I hope you can make it to Greenwich, London for what I think will be a very special piece of theatre.

The run isĀ 18th Jun 2012 – 7th Jul 2012

What is CROW?

Ted Hughes’s Crow poems are among the most powerful and vital of the last 50 years. He called them ‘my masterpiece’. Multi-award-winning Handspring Puppet Company gives them new life as an unforgettable dance theatre performance.

Handspring Puppet Company have been creating groundbreaking theatre with puppets for over 30 years. Their work in the National Theatre’s production of War Horse has been seen by millions and won awards for both the West End and Broadway productions.
Ted Hughes, British Poet Laureate from 1984 until 1998, is recognised as one of the English language’s finest 20th century poets, and his work, including Crow, is studied all over the world. In Crow, Hughes gives voice to an unforgettable character: Crow witnesses God’s creation in the Garden of Eden and adds his own dry trickery to the events. Droll, lonely, adaptable, laughing, watching, instinctive and curious, Crow is in all of us, and in these poems Hughes presents the songs he would sing.
For Crow, Handspring combine their ingenious puppet designs and world-famous skill in manipulation with the choreography of one of British dance’s rising stars, Place Prize 2011 winner Ben Duke of Lost Dog.Here is a BBC thing about us and the Puppet making. The Telegraph.
